This piques my interest. A late Monte Carlo SS.
These do have one thing going for them over the older ones, these have the 5.3L V8 rather than the Supercharged 3.8L V6. Still, it's a FWD coupe based on the Impala's platform. It looks nice though.

That supercharged 3800 was no slouch. Decent power for the time, and it's a 3800, so it'll go at least 250,000 miles.

'Tis true. But 303 horsepower doesn't hurt.

My mom had one as a rental car once and hooned the crap out of it, thing could move. I recall the interior being surprisingly cramped for something that big though.

5.3 liked to eat transaxles, and the thing wasn't really around long enough for GM to do something about that. Also V8 FWD is dumb.
Pass on this thing and get a first gen CTS-V instead.

Yeah the V8 is awesome, but I think they look cheaper than the early models.
Were these available with a front bench seat like the Impala SS was?

FWD V8s allow for lots and lots of this though!

Chevy has always been good at that: Big exteriors and tiny interiors. The Camaro is a victim of that same thing.

And 3800 Series III blown V6's allow for lots of M-car trolling.

I'd never actually buy one, especially since you can get a first gen CTS-V for around the same price

Why do I like every horrible SS car? This, the Impala, and Malibu. I like all of them.

I don't know why, but that last generation of Mone Carlo - specifically the LS4-powered SS - makes me so mad I want to punch a baby. The whole thing just feels like an abomination of God to me. An overweight "sports car" built off a full-sized FWD chassis meant mainly to transport old people. Half the number of doors for a car its size so the only useful feature a large car has - comfortably moving 4 people - is now turned into a hastle. Power going to the wrong damned wheels, and NASCAR inspired exterior modeling to solidify your redneck street cred. Coming from the same brand that brought the world the Corvette and Camaro, this is one car where GM should have known better.

Yeah, I used to frequent a W-Body forum and all of these V8 ones (Buick LaCrosee Super, Impala SS and Monte Carlo SS) ate transmissions. I always liked them anyway, though. I have a tendency to adore gross cars.
